What’s New in Dynamics 365 Business Central – 2025 Release Wave 1
The 2025 Release Wave 1 for Dynamics 365 Business Central delivers one of the most forward-looking updates we’ve seen in recent years. With a sharper focus on AI-driven automation, global scalability, and enhanced financial visibility, this release gives both users and partners powerful new tools to deliver smarter solutions and improve operational efficiency.
Major application enhancements:
A significant highlight is the deeper integration with Dynamics 365 Field Service, enabling real-time item availability within work orders. This enhancement facilitates more informed scheduling decisions, ensuring that service operations are both timely and resource-efficient. Additionally, improvements in cost adjustment troubleshooting offer finance teams enhanced tools to identify and resolve discrepancies swiftly, streamlining financial operations.
Artificial intelligence and Copilot:
AI and agents take center stage in this release as expected. Copilot in Business Central will have extended capabilities across various business processes. One of the more practical examples of this is the introduction of Payables Agent. This agent automates accounts payable tasks by intelligently matching documents and managing exceptions, reducing manual intervention and minimizing errors. Similarly, the Sales Order Agent streamlines the creation and validation of sales orders, enhancing accuracy and efficiency.
The new Consumption Billing AI also supports businesses with usage-based billing models, automating calculations to ensure precision and scalability. This should fit in nicely with the Subscription Billing module Microsoft introduced earlier this year. Copilot's autofill feature is also set to predict and suggest field values, reducing repetitive data entry, while its content summarization capability aids users in quickly grasping complex information.
Power BI and analytics:
On the analytics front, the integration of Power BI reports for subscription billing offers out-of-the-box dashboards tailored for tracking recurring revenue and customer insights. This integration empowers finance and operations teams with deeper visibility into billing health, facilitating informed decision-making.
Analysis Mode inside Dynamics 365 Business Central is also getting some improved functionality. Users can now add fields from related tables like they do with regular columns, and Copilot analysis assist will be available across tables in the future. The financial reporting process is also improved across the board - for users, authors, and administrators.
For users, the experience is more streamlined overall, negative numbers are represented using the accounting format, and they can pre-format reports for Excel exports. The improvements for authors are more centred around internal descriptions and row and column definitions. Administrators can expect major improvements in telemetry to help them understand how reports are being used, enhanced security and auditing in Microsoft Purview, and additional documentation for troubleshooting errors.
Global expansion and localizations:
Globally, Business Central's reach is expanding with new country localizations and modular extensions, such as the UK's functionality now available as an extension. Compliance updates addressing VAT in Italy, GST in India, and Australia's Payment Times Reporting Bill ensure that businesses remain aligned with regional regulations, simplifying international operations.
Developer experience and AL-Go:
For developers, enhancements to the AL language streamline coding processes, particularly in handling JSON objects and managing data portability between extensions. Improved search and navigation functionalities enhance the user experience, making system interactions more intuitive.
Altogether, this release represents an important step forward for Business Central as a smart, global-ready platform. While we did try to cover the most critical announcements, we also encourage you to watch the presentation highlights here, or review Microsoft's release notes.
